NEW YORK, 24 October 2008—The Ford Foundation announced today that Robert Kaplan and Peter Nadosy have been elected to its board of trustees.
Mr. Kaplan is a professor of management practice at Harvard Business School and a senior director of The Goldman Sachs Group. He served as interim CEO of the Harvard Management Company, the group responsible for managing Harvard's endowment, from November 2007 until June of this year. Mr. Nadosy is managing partner of East End Advisors and served as senior advisor at Morgan Stanley until his retirement earlier this year. Before becoming a senior advisor at Morgan Stanley, Mr. Nadosy served as president and then vice chairman of Morgan Stanley Asset Management.
"Robert Kaplan and Peter Nadosy will be a tremendous asset to the Ford Foundation, and we are very pleased to welcome them to the board," said Kathryn Fuller, chair of the Ford Foundation Board of Trustees. "Drawing on extensive leadership experience in both the corporate and nonprofit sectors, they will contribute valuable insight across a range of key areas, from program strategy to investment management. They join a diverse and dynamic set of trustees who are deeply committed to furthering the foundation's important work."
Ford Foundation trustees are elected by the full board and serve up to two six-year terms. Mr. Kaplan's election was effective on Sept. 29 and Mr. Nadosy's election will become effective on February 1, 2009.
"These two outstanding professionals are at the top of their fields. They bring the highest level of experience in nonprofit leadership, and they will play a vital role in advancing the work of the Ford Foundation for many years to come," said Luis Ubiñas, president of the Ford Foundation.
Prior to joining Harvard Business School in 2005, Mr. Kaplan served as vice chairman of The Goldman Sachs Group, with oversight responsibility for the Investment Banking and Investment Management divisions. He also served in various other capacities for the firm, including head of the Corporate Finance department. He currently serves as co-chairman of the board of Project A.L.S., co-chairman of the board of The TEAK Fellowship, and is a member of the boards of Harvard Medical School, Harvard Management Company and The Jewish Theological Seminary.
Mr. Nadosy has served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, including Amherst College, World Wildlife Fund, Brooks School, Summit Foundation and The Brearley School.
